The Staff Made Sure We Were Ready

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? May 2004

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? This was your old building very small but clean, organized and friendly staff. We look forward to seeing the not so new New building.

How was the adoption process? Was easy and we loved that you match pets to people and not just the first ones to come along and be interested. Animals are a big responsibility and deserve the best fit for them!

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? We had had several dogs so we knew quite a bit but the staff made sure we were ready and so was the little fur ball we named Maggie (she was named Rosemary)

Comments: Maggie was our everything for the last 13 years unfortunately they never live as long as we want them too…. on that note we will be back to FVHS soon to find our next member of our family as we had a very positive experience the first time around and feel very fortunate to have had Maggie in our lives thanks to FVHS!!

We'll Be Back If We Ever Adopt Again!

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? March 2017

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? It is a gorgeous building. Different from any other shelter. I was used to being able to walk in by the dogs and look. I didn’t mind standing on the other side of the wall.

How was the adoption process? Very easy. We did our application online, so when we got there all we had to do was look and adopt.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? I wasn’t exactly ready. Wasn’t expecting to bring a dog home right away. We just went to “look” and fell in love with Cindy.

Comments: Staff is awesome. Very clean. I will definitely be back if we ever adopt again.

Great Experience

How was the adoption process? It was fast, and the staff was very good about helping! I was very pleased with the whole process.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? Yes, because they answered our questions and told us everything we needed to know. We are first time pet owners and they made the whole process very easy and fun!

Comments: I would recommend Fox valley to anyone!

Green Bay Petsmart Adoption

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? February 2017

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? Staff was friendly and dogs looked well-cared for.

How was the adoption process? We adopted at the Green Bay Petsmart and it was very easy and pretty quick. We met with the dog we were interested in, filled out an application, brought our other dog in for a dog meet, and completed the application process in just a couple hours. Our new dog has settled in great and is a perfect fit.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? Yes, we received a lot of discounts/coupons through PetSmart for adopting including a free mini training session and coupons for all the basics. Plus they went through all of our dogs vet records and information with us thoroughly before we completed the adoption.

Macy and Charlie

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? December 2016

Were you greeted upon entering the shelter? Not sure

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? It was a very busy Saturday, but it was well organized. We had called ahead for a meet and greet with Macy. Much to our delight she also came with Charlie!

How was the adoption process? The adoption process was easy and organized. We brought our older dog, Rooney, two times to meet Macy and Charlie, because Rooney is kind set in his ways…..bringing 3 hounds home in our truck was awesome.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? We were very prepared upon adopting our dogs. They came with a lot of paperwork, which was  gone over with us before we left. Our only issue is potty training these older dogs, but it’s getting better. Patience, patience. …I’m told.

Comments: I could not have imagined all of this working so well. We initially were looking to mediate some of our Rooney’s grumpiness. Not only has that happened, but Macy and Charlie brought boat loads of absolute joy to the house. This house is bursting at the seams from all the love flowing from these two. Thank you so much for all the work you did to get them ready for us. I will definitely be back to adopt again…..but hopefully not for a while. In the meantime, I’ll be bugging my husband to keep sending donations. Especially, after seeing how much care you put into each animal you have.

Riley

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? October 2015

Were you greeted upon entering the shelter? Yes.

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? Right when we walked in the door(at the Fox Valley Humane Association Adoption Center At Petsmart In Green Bay, Wisconsin), there was a cage right in front of us with the most adorable black puppy, Riley, in it just begging to be held and pet. We instantly fell in love with him and they brought him into a private room with us so that we could spend time with him. We ended up taking Riley home the very next day. We were both new Puppy Parents but were confident that we wanted to give Riley our unconditional love and a great home. We were very sad to see all of the puppies in kennels just waiting to be taken home by a loving owner. It is very heartbreaking.

How was the adoption process? The overall adoption process with Riley was very easy and smooth. They made sure that we had all of the correct information that we needed before we took Riley home with us. They also went over all of his eating habits as well as potty training tips and other training advice.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? We were both new Puppy Parents when we adopted Riley, so we were both fairly new to raising a puppy, but we both grew up with dogs as kids, so we were both familiar with dogs.

Mya

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? March 2016

Were you greeted upon entering the shelter? Yes.

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? It was very busy, but clean and nice.

How was the adoption process? It was quick since we had been pre-approved. The staff was very informative and it was good to have the paper work with Mya’s history. We were told she had some minor health issues and they weren’t really sure why the family had given her up but she was so cute and sweet we took her anyway and figured we could deal with it.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? Yes we were told we could wait till the next day to pick her up but we didn’t want to.

Comments: Mya is the funniest cutest little dig ever! She is a jack Russell /Chihuahua mix so she is endlessly entertaining and very active! We walked in the Appleton Christmas parade this year and had lots of fun. She didn’t have much training from her former home but she learned very fast and is eager to please if she understands what you want. Her favorite thing is to steal stuff and run with it, very funny! She also loves to cuddle and is very affectionate. Thank you to fox valley humane for the good work that you do.

Mila

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? December 2016

Were you greeted upon entering the shelter? Yes.

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? This shelter is very clean and it is very apparent that all the animals are very well cared for and loved. When I met “Mila”, everyone knew her name and who she was. They all knew everything about her. Very professional facility. They also offer therapy dog training, which we will be looking in to for “Mila”. She’s the sweetest little girl and we love her so much!

How was the adoption process? The adoption process went well. I received all of her records and was informed that I could even bring her back in within 7 daysif she needed any follow-up medical treatment.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? Yes!

Comments: WE LOVE HER!

Logan

What type of pet did you adopt? Dog

When did you adopt from FVHA? 11/1/2004

Were you greeted upon entering the shelter? Yes.

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter? A good place.

How was the adoption process? A bit frustrating.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home? Yes!

Comments: I had a golden retriever pass the day before on 10/31 and was quite upset.  I went to the shelter immediately looking for a new friend.  As I walked in, Logan was being taken out the door for a walk.  I asked if I could walk him and was given the leash.  We immediately bonded.  I was then told he would have to go to the prison  in Green Bay for training since he was uncontrollable.  I disagreed and went up the ladder to complain.  I had 2 German Shepherds, one Siberian Husky, and one Golden Retriever before and knew how to take care of dogs.  I won, and  picked Logan up at the vets office a  couple days later, after he had been neutered.  A year later I took him to the shelter during an open house and people were shocked at how well behaved he was.  I wasn’t of course. Love and a lot of cuddling solved his problems.  We also found a small companion dog for him also. Another rescue from a private owner. Logan is now 14 and one of the most loving dogs you will ever see,  He has also been trained as a Therapy Dog, but is now retired. My next dog, after Logan passes will  be a senior dog since I’m a senior also. I thank the FVHS for Logan and the love we’ve gotten from him over the past 12 years.

Any other comments: I saw Clementine at Pets Supply Plus and couldn’t leave her for she was an elderly cat. She is petite, long hair and she’s been through alot. When I took her home my senior male cat greeted her-friends right away. I started Clementine on IAMS Maximum Calorie and Hills a/d for she needed to gain weight- FVHA was feeding her well-just what she went thru prior to getting to shelter was alot ..I also added Prostora Max.. probiotic. 2 days after I took her to my vet-My vet was impressed for FVHA did all they could for her. Had to be shaved due to matting and have teeth extracted, did all the blood work more than once, really watched her closely..in fact she was sent to foster care for she needed to be watched closely. She stayed with FVHA until I met her end of August& only up for adoption 1 day when I met her! She has now been at her new forever home  for 3 wks- still on same food, fur looks really good, growing in well..2 of my 3 cats like her, sleep by her. she is a meower.. we are thinking she is looking for her old home? Then I put a cat harness on her and she walked rt down the sidewalk! greeted the grandma lab across st & other 2 dogs down st. she very much is friends w/grandma lab across st. They lay on the dog bed together!! Thank you FVHA for giving this senior cat a chance to live, heal and find her forever home!!

Charlie

Adopter:  Stephanie
Date of Adoption:  April 2016

What was your first impression upon entering the shelter?:
My fiance and I went to the Petsmart in Green Bay to adopt our pet. We went there twice and fell in love with Charlie not long after visiting with him. The Petsmart location seemed like a good shelter place for the dogs/cats and the workers seemed to enjoy their job and were really good with the animals and customers.

How was the adoption process?:
We came close to closing time on a Sunday. We asked if we could adopt charlie about 10 minutes before closing and asked if it was possible to bring him home that day. The lady working with us was completely okay with staying late while we completed the paperwork and picked up some items for him before taking him. I was very happy with their customer service and care for finding Charlie a home. I apologies for keeping her past closing and she said “if it means finding another animal a home, i’ll gladly stay late and help”. That really made me glad to have gone there and to work with FVHA.

Did you feel prepared to take your new pet home?:
I was a prepared as any new pet owner could be. They gave me information of crate training and told me about the donated vet visit within a week of adoption. She also gave us information on different vets in the location which was nice since we didn’t have one yet.

Any other comments:
I really enjoyed my time working with the Fox Valley Humane Association and hope to bring Charlie by the Petsmart again to say hi once he’s bigger. I really like how all the animals were very well taken care of and had no bad behaviors from what I could tell. Would recommend any day.

Review:  My husband and I adopted Gilligan, and he is a wonderful addition to our “brood.”  From the minute he got out of his carrier he was exploring his new castle and also trying to figure out why those darn other cats were hissing at him 🙂 Now, they all play together and give us lots of laughs.  Your staff at FVHA was extremely friendly and helpful.  Thank you so much!
