The Animal Specialist is responsible for the care of all animals in the shelter. They are in charge of the day to day cleaning and maintenance of kennels and cages. Animal Specialists are the staff members who work with the animals constantly and are the main caretakers. Their position requires them to have knowledge of all animal needs in their department. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for over-seeing, coordinating, and training all of the Fox Valley Humane Association’s volunteers. Veterinary Externship (Available to Fourth Year UW Veterinary Medical School Students)
FVHA’s on-site surgical suite is equipped for examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and basic soft tissue surgeries including ovariohysterectomies, castrations, mass removals, and enucleations. Surgical sterilization is performed on dogs, cats, and rabbits. The suite is staffed by a team of experienced veterinarians, certified veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants. The suite has two surgical tables and anesthetic machines to accommodate two surgeons. Our two-week externships offer a positive, engaging, hands-on learning experience.
