Whisker Walk stop 11 - La Crosse
The landmark of Homer Simpson's dreams

We have actually seen college students fall to their knees and worship at this sight in La Crosse. There's definitely enough here to fuel the wildest frat party.

The World's Largest Six Pack was built in 1969 and originally held 22,200 barrels of Heileman's Old Style beer. When Heileman's sold the business to City Brewery, the massive storage tanks were repainted to resemble their new flagship brew, La Crosse Lager.

According to the six pack's signage, there is enough brew here to fill 7,340,796 cans and provide one person a six pack a day for 3,351 years. You can take a tour at City Brewery and (naturally) there is a gift shop where you can buy a slightly smaller version of this landmark for your personal consumption.

Note from Whisker Walk commentator Maggie: That Carrie Nation lady from last week would have had a field day here . . .

Yesterday's question and answer:
Q.
What was the name of the "First Cat" who occupied the White House from 1992 to 2000? A. Socks! Later, a chocolate Labrador puppy, Buddy, joined the Clinton household. The two pets hated each other and Bill Clinton was known to say that he had made more progress on the relationship between the Palestinians and Israelis than he had between Socks and Buddy.

Pearl's Wisdom
North, south, east or west -- home is where I like it best

Do you like to travel? Yeah, me neither. I've heard some cats do like a car ride and change of scenery now and then, but I think most of you agree with me when I say the comforts of home are the best. I personally like to communicate this to my people by tossing my tuna every time we ride in the car.

Since the humans often get wanderlust at this time of year -- they call these trips of theirs "vacations" -- you might want to let them just take off without you. (Go! Send me a postcard! Anything to get out of that three hour ride to the cabin.) Of course, your needs still need attention, so I suggest one of these nice people they call "pet sitters." They come in, get your dinner, take care of the box, maybe pet or play with you (if you like that sort of thing) and you never have to leave your familiar surroundings. You probably want to get some recommendations from other cats to make sure the sitter you choose is reliable, but I've had very good luck with mine.

This is my last column for this year's Words from the Whisker Walk. Hope you've had a great time and picked up some valuable tips. Until next time, keep training those humans! -- Pearl
