Volunteer of the Month – August

Congratulations to FVHA’s Volunteer of the Month for August, Mary Ultang!

Mary Ultang

Tell us a little about yourself:   I’ve been married to my husband Jim for 19 years. I have two children and my seventh grandchild was just born. I retired two years ago. I guess I thought about volunteering at the shelter my whole life and now I finally have the time.

How long have you been a volunteer? A year and a half Do you have any pets? We have a rat terrier named Lucky from my sister-in-law two years ago after our 12 year old yorkie died. He’s approximately seven years old. I’d love to have more pets but Lucky doesn’t play well with others so I guess we’ll just stick with an “only child”.

Do you have a favorite FVHA program? The Pet Stop is my favorite program. It’s great for getting information about the shelter to the public. It’s so much fun for everyone to interact with the dogs.

What about volunteering do you enjoy? It’s great to see all the dogs and cats in cages and later see they’ve found a permanent home.

What motivates you to volunteer? I love being part of a team that gives the dogs and cats another chance to have their own family.
