Congratulations to the FVHA volunteer of the month for October,
Tell us a little about yourself– I have been living in Appleton for 10 years, prior to that I lived in Southern California for 20 years and before that Virginia. I was in the military for 4 years and was stationed at the Pentagon, I was able to retire at the end of April, which has allowed me to be a volunteer. Also very proud to say I am a 19 1/2 year Breast Cancer survivor.
How long have you been a volunteer? I began volunteering at the end of July of this year, so not that long but have jumped in with both feet
Do you have any pets? I have 2 cats both 11, Taz is black and Kota is a calico.
Do you have a favorite FVHA program? My favorite program is Pet Stop, I am there almost every Friday. I love the program because it puts FVHA out there to the public. There are many people who do not realize how much FVHA does to get all the dogs, cats and critters adopted. And I get to be with my favorite dogs Wilma, Oz and Zen.
What about volunteering do you enjoy? There is so much I enjoy, I love cat cleaning where I can be with them and yes I am talking to them the whole time. I like that there are so many ways I can involve myself, because there are always so many things that need to be done. Volunteering is not just about being with the animals, it’s the cleaning, dishes and laundry that needs to be done so the staff can concentrate on these animals being adopted.
What motivates you to volunteer? Volunteering to me is a very humbling experience. That I give a few hours of my time and receive the joy I get from these animals and knowing they will find their forever home. Volunteering is not something you have to do, but what you want to do and it is the best feeling ever.
